Underwater Video Surveys
Our company has extensive experience completing underwater video surveys with a broad range of specialist video survey equipment useful for different applications. Our particular experience relates to biodiversity surveys, pest inspections, habitat and geophysical surveys, remotes sensing ground truthing and infrastructure inspection.
Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)
PMSS use a Seabotix four thruster ROV (pictured left) with highly accurate seabed positioning (geolocation) enabled by ROV scanning sonar (Tritech Micron Sonar), Ultra Short Baseline (USBL) seabed positioning and GPS navigation system. The ROV is particularly useful for environmental based surveys in difficult or dangerous to access environments (e.g. deep water, contaminated or confined infrastructure). Applications include benthic habitat surveys for biological diversity, pest inspections and infrastructure inspection such as leak testing and condition reporting.
Underwater Video and Photography
PMSS have a wide range of diver handheld underwater video and photography equipment useful for both qualitative and quantitative underwater surveys. For higher resolution requirements we use Sony Cybershot digital cameras held in Nauticam housings with multiple 2000 lumen LED strobe lighting.
Tow Video Systems
Our tow video systems include vessel live feed cameras that allow cost effective benthic underwater surveys for either seabed point inspections or transect tows. Camera angle and field of view (FOV) and audio feed can be manipulated for particular applications. Applications for tow video most commonly include habitat mapping surveys for seagrasses and algae canopy and benthic biodiversity surveys.
Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems (BRUVS)
For non-invasive surveys of mobile marine fauna such as reef fish, PMSS have extensive experience using Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems (BRUVS). BRUVS and in particular stereo BRUVS allows abundance, diversity and accurate sizing or biomass estimates of fishes and mobile invertebrates with video equipment. Being noninvasive, BRUVS surveys are applicable for Marine Protected Area and Aquaculture based fish surveys. PMSS use SeaGIS manufactured equipment and software for biodiversity and data extraction from video and photography data.
Marine Survey Vessels and Barges
PMSS own and maintain under necessary Marine Survey various commercially certified vessels for on water logistics. These range from large commercial vessels (MV Regardless -18 m, pictured left) to minor tenders, barges and zodiacs. All vessels owned by our company are maintained under appropriate Marine Survey and Insurance Policies for commercial works including scientific and commercial diving, marine salvage and marine construction applications.
